What to ask on an inbound lead call

Lead intake gets more useful when the questions match the next conversation your team needs to have.

A lead call is not just a callback request. It is the first chance to capture the details that tell a team who called, what they need, and what should happen next. The best questions are the ones that create a useful next step without making the caller repeat the conversation later.

Start with the handoff in mind

Define the approved details a rep or follow-up workflow needs before the call is handed off. That can include contact information, the caller’s reason for reaching out, the intent your team wants to understand, and the route that follows.

  • Who is calling and how the team should reach them
  • What the caller is trying to accomplish
  • The qualification context your team uses before follow-up
  • The conditions that should bring a rep into the call

Keep the path practical

Not every lead needs the same route. A configured intake can handle the standard questions, capture the approved context, and follow the next-step or human-handoff rule your team has chosen.

Ask for the context that makes the next conversation worthwhile—not every detail a system could store.
